1. John Elgar Collins STARKEY, born 5 Oct 1897 in Stonar, Sandwich (Kent), census 1901 at Wood Cottages, Cheriton (Kent). He died 8 Apr 1915 from wounds received 21 Mar 1915, having only been in France since 3 Mar 1915. He was buried at Boulogne Eastern Cemetery - Grave III.D.81. He had previously been on the training ship Warspite, after leaving school, and attained the rank of P.O. He then went to work on the liner “Oceanic”, and was transferred from this vessel only a few days before she met her end. Subsequently he joined the army, and was four months in training at Dover before embarking to France. At school he had displayed considerable talent as an elocutionist.

[John & Charlotte separated at some point after the 1891 census, and by 1901 Charlotte was living as a boarder with the DRISCOLL family at 12 Wyndham Road, Dover (Kent). Her occupation at this time was shown as “Fish Seller”. She died 26 Mar 1917 in Dover (Kent) – Aged 66. It appears that John & Charlotte's marriage was childless]. (2) John's subsequent unmarried partner was Emily STARKEY, born 23 Oct 1862 at 2 Commercial Place, Deptford Road, Rotherhithe, London, census 1871 at 8 Camden Cottages, Bell Green, Lewisham (London) - with her Uncle & Aunt, Charles & Jane WELCH, census 1881 at Musley Villa, Manor Road, Wallington (Surrey), census 1891 at Red Lion Inn, Sandwich Road, Stonar (Kent), census 1901 at Wood Cottages, Cheriton (Kent), occupation 1881 Housemaid, occupation 1891 General Servant, occupation 1901 "Housekeeper" to John Elgar COLLINS, medical condition 1901 "Deaf", resided 1919 at 3 Dane Road, Ramsgate (Kent), died 5 Jan 1931 at 1 Longfleet Gardens, Poole (Dorset) - Aged 68.
