1.    John Vince AMOS, born 27 Oct 1876 in Newington-next-Hythe (Kent), census 1881 in Newington-next-Hythe (Kent), census 1891 at The Street, Newington-next-Hythe (Kent), occupation 1891 Farm Boy. Enlisted 18 Aug 1893 at Dover - Gunner 98695 - Royal Field Artillery, Served in India for six years including the N.W. Frontier Campaign. Also served at Home & in Ireland. Promoted through the ranks during the course of his service. He was discharged 17 Aug 1914 at Woolwich as Battery-Sergeant-Major with full gratuity and good references, having completed 21 years service - Medals awarded: India Medal with two clasps - Long Service & Good Conduct Medals. On leaving the Army it was John's intention to live with his wife and four children at 65 Brockbank Road, Lewisham (London), and to take up a position which he had been offered by London County Council at Southwark Park. However, due to the outbreak of WW1 he was recalled almost immediately for service with the BEF in France - Having taken part in the retreat from Mons in 1914, he was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant 15 Dec 1914 and to full Lieutenant in July 1915. He died 13 Feb 1917 at a casualty clearing station in France from an illness contracted whilst on active service - Aged 40, and was buried at Merville Communal Cemetery - Grave VII.A.31.

       He married Edith Ellen BURVILL, 27 Dec 1902 at Christ Church, Folkestone (Kent), born 2nd qtr 1884 in Folkestone (Kent). She resided after WW1 at 85 Guildhall Street, Folkestone (Kent) with their four children.
