Descendancy Narrative of Richard Dixon




I. Richard DIXON was born in 1806 at Canterbury, Kent. He married Jemima Dorcas NEWTON, daughter of James NEWTON and Jemima Caroline Jane SOLE, on 24 December 1831 at St Leonards, Deal, Kent.1 He was a Mariner on 19 February 1832 at North End, Kent. He witnessed the marriage of Mary Prebble NEWTON and Richard William SPEARS on 24 October 1836 at St Leonards, Deal, Kent.2 He appeared on the census of 6 June 1841 at Easole.3 He appeared on the census of 30 March 1851 at Easole.4 He and Jemima Dorcas NEWTON emigrated on 19 May 1852.5 He was a grocer between 1865 and 1868 at Jeffcott St, North Adelaide, South Australia. He died on 27 November 1882 at Norwood, South Australia.6


A. William John DIXON was born in 1832 at North End, Deal, Kent. He was christened on 19 February 1832 at St Leonards, Deal, Kent. He appeared on the census of 6 June 1841 at Easole.7 He appeared on the census of 30 March 1851 at Easole.8 He was a Tailor on 4 November 1853 at Minster Thanet. He married Ann HARLOW, daughter of John HARLOW and Mary BURVILL, on 5 November 1853 at Registry Office, Eastry, Kent.9 He and Ann HARLOW emigrated circa 1854.10 He witnessed the death of William Harlow DIXON on 28 March 1855 at North Adelaide, South Australia.11 He witnessed the death of James Newton DIXON on 24 February 1864 at North Adelaide, South Australia.12 He was a tailor in 1869 at Wellington Square, North Adelaide. He was a tailor in 1875 at Tynte St, North Adelaide. He witnessed the death of Ann HARLOW on 17 December 1879 at North Adelaide, South Australia.13 He witnessed the marriage of Mary Ann Prebble DIXON and George Robert WEEKS on 16 October 1881 at Brompton.14 He married Elizabeth JEWIS, daughter of Thomas TIDMARSH, on 19 November 1881 at Home of John Harlow Dixon, Parkside, South Australia. He was a tailor between 1882 and 1900 at 65 Margaret St, North Adelaide. He died on 27 June 1916 at Southwark, South Australia, at age 84.15

2. Richard John DIXON was born on 3 June 1855 at North Adelaide, South Australia. He married Annie Eliza CORNISH, daughter of Ebenezer CORNISH, on 5 April 1882 at Residence of Mrs F Cornish, Norwood. He died on 21 December 1910 at Henley Beach, South Australia, at age 55.

3. Sarah Jane DIXON was born on 20 May 1857 at North Adelaide, South Australia. She married William BUSBRIDGE, son of James BUSBRIDGE and Jane WEEKS, on 30 September 1877 at Tynte St, North Adelaide, South Australia. She died on 21 July 1933 at South Australia at age 76.17


a) Maud Adeline BUSBRIDGE was born on 16 January 1878 at Brompton, South Australia. She married Arthur Robert SMITH on 18 September 1897 at Residence of William Busbridge, Brompton Park.


b) Albert John BUSBRIDGE was born on 9 June 1880 at Bowden, South Australia. He married Louisa (Lulu) Frances BATTLE, daughter of William BATTLE, on 12 February 1898 at PM Manse, Adelaide.


c) Annie Harlow Dixon BUSBRIDGE was born on 29 March 1882 at Bowden, South Australia.


d) Norman Burville BUSBRIDGE was born on 20 May 1884 at Norwood, South Australia.


e) Irene Dorcas BUSBRIDGE was born on 17 April 1886 at Norwood, South Australia. She married Frederick James WHITE on 13 February 1904 at Residence of A.J. Clarke, Croydon.


f) Vida Jane BUSBRIDGE was born on 28 December 1888 at Willaston, South Australia. She married Bertram Charles Wallace SMITH on 21 December 1910.


g) William Howard James BUSBRIDGE was born on 21 August 1890 at Gawler, South Australia.


h) Alberta Harriet BUSBRIDGE was born on 22 December 1891 at Gawler, South Australia. She died in March 1892 at Gawler. She was buried on 5 March 1892 at Willaston Cemetery, Gawler, South Australia.


i) David Leslie BUSBRIDGE was born on 3 January 1894 at Gawler, South Australia.


j) Doris Beryl BUSBRIDGE was born on 26 June 1896 at Brompton Park, South Australia.


4. John Harlow DIXON was born on 30 June 1859 at North Adelaide, South Australia. He married Alice Follett PALMER, daughter of Thomas PALMER, on 1 August 1881 at Residence of George Prince Holland, Goodwood Park. He died on 4 September 1924 at age 65.18


5. Mary Ann Prebble DIXON was born on 5 October 1861 at North Adelaide, South Australia. She married George Robert WEEKS, son of James WEEKS and Emma Jane LEE, on 16 October 1881 at Brompton.19 She died on 21 May 1937 at South Australia at age 75.20


a) Ida Lee WEEKS was born on 2 April 1882 at Brompton, South Australia. She married James Lewis ROBERTS on 27 April 1905 at home of George and Mary Weeks, Brompton, South Australia. She died on 12 April 1977 at Glen Osmond, South Australia, at age 95.21


b) Alinda Myrtle WEEKS was born on 13 February 1884 at Brompton, South Australia. She registered the birth of Harrold Jack WEEKS on 21 November 1897 at Fuller St, Walkerville, South Australia. She married Charles Alexander WILSON on 8 September 1909 at Christian Chapel, Hindmarsh, South Australia. She married Roy Allan HUNTER, son of James HUNTER and Mary FORT, on 2 October 1915 at Hindmarsh, South Australia. She died on 11 June 1967 at Glenside, South Australia, at age 83.22


c) Horatio (Ray) George WEEKS was born on 22 February 1887 at Brompton, South Australia. He married Margaret Ruth DUDLEY, daughter of William DUDLEY and Margaret RODERICK, on 25 February 1911 at St James, West Adelaide, South Australia. He died on 11 February 1973 at South Australia at age 85.23


d) Leslie James WEEKS was born on 3 August 1889 at Brompton, South Australia. He married Ethel Caroline BROOKER, daughter of John BROOKER and Ellen Hepzibah BLACK, on 5 December 1913 at Hindmarsh, South Australia. He died on 19 September 1977 at Woodville, South Australia, at age 88.24


e) Edith Annie WEEKS was born on 12 February 1892 at Kent Town, South Australia. She married William John TAYLOR, son of John TAYLOR and Ada Mary ROBINSON, on 12 August 1914 at Church of Christ, Hindmarsh, South Australia. She died on 16 October 1969 at Everard Park, South Australia, at age 77.25


f) Alberta May WEEKS was born on 19 March 1895 at Brompton, South Australia. She married William Arthur Robert MOYSE on 9 January 1918 at home of George Weeks, Brompton. She died on 30 November 1970 at South Australia at age 75.26


g) Harrold Jack WEEKS was born on 21 November 1897 at Fuller St, Walkerville, South Australia. He married Alma Lily HAWKE, daughter of Richard Holland HAWKE and Sarah Ellen REDDING, on 23 February 1921 at Hindmarsh, South Australia. He began military service on 31 March 1942 at Adelaide. He ended military service on 23 August 1943.27 He began military service on 24 August 1943 at Adelaide. He ended military service on 13 November 1946.28 He died on 11 November 1988 at Campbelltown, South Australia, at age 90.29


6. James Newton DIXON was born on 1 December 1863 at North Adelaide, South Australia. He died on 24 February 1864 at North Adelaide, South Australia.30


7. Newton James DIXON was born on 11 May 1865 at North Adelaide, South Australia. He married Clara Lydia HERMANN, daughter of Charles HERMANN, on 3 May 1906 at Methodist Church, Morgan, South Australia. He died on 12 July 1935 at Waikerie, South Australia, at age 70.31

g) Mary Mavis DIXON was born on 21 May 1920 at South Australia.


h) Dorothy Joan DIXON was born on 29 April 1927 at South Australia.


i) Edna Joyce DIXON was born on 29 June 1930 at South Australia.


8. Harlow Charles DIXON was born on 9 January 1868 at North Adelaide, South Australia. He married Emily Ethel CROSSMAN on 26 July 1895 at Baptist Church Manse, Port Germein. He died on 19 December 1952 at age 84.32


a) Archibald Charles DIXON was born on 16 October 1896 at Baroota, South Australia. He began military service on 8 January 1916 enlisted in the AIF as Private 274 of the 43rd Battalion. He died on 4 October 1917 at Belgium at age 20.33


b) Sarah Mabel Annie DIXON was born on 19 January 1898 at Baroota, South Australia. She died in 1984.


c) Reginald Crossman DIXON was born on 24 April 1899 at Baroota, South Australia. He died in May 1899 at South Australia.34


d) Elsie Florence DIXON was born on 26 March 1900 at Baroota, South Australia.


9. William George DIXON was born on 19 April 1874 at North Adelaide, South Australia. He married Annie Elizabeth BRUCE on 5 February 1902 at Gouger St, Adelaide, South Australia. He died on 28 August 1959 at Henley Beach, South Australia, at age 85.


B. Sarah Jane DIXON was born in 1837 at Eythorne, Kent. She appeared on the census of 6 June 1841 at Easole.35 She appeared on the census of 30 March 1851 at Easole.36 She emigrated on 19 May 1852.37 She died on 9 September 1920 at South Australia.38
